I ? right) tuzmaria Rivera, Dulce, Irving and Belester Sobreyra at their home in Ortonville. :; 4:; Έ i (ii Belester Sobreyra, Luzmaria Rivera Dulce & Irving Dulce, 11, likes basketball and was pleased to report that Ortonville's fifth grade girls beat the Milbank girls in the first game of the season. Irving, 12 is in seventh grade and prefers wrestling to basketball. Belester Sobreyra, Luzmaria and their two children are recent arrivals to the Ortonville area brought here by employment at the Victory Farms Dairy operation in Milbank. The family arrived in Minnesota from their home town of Ixtapa-Zihauntanejo, Mexico, four years ago and commuted from the Morris area until moving here to start the new school year. Belester is the parlor manager at Victory Farms, responsible for milking 1700 cows twice a day. The first milking starts at 5:30 a.m. run- ning till 3:00 p.m., and the second milking picks up again at 5:30 till 3:00 a.m. Luzmaria works long hours at the dairy as well. Belester has been impressed with the dairy operations com- puter system, designed to keep track of each cow's production, feed, and schedule, though he says that it's not yet operating as well as he expects it will eventually. Both hope to have time this next summer to enjoy Big Stone Lake. Belester likes to fish, and hopes to try his luck catching the elusive Minnesota walleye he's heard so much about. Luzmaria loves to swim in the ocean, so she'll have to make do with one or the other of our Minnesota lakes. Irving claims she's a really good swi miner. Irving also claims his mother is a great cook, which should come in handy when Belester brings home all those walleye he intends to catch. "She has lots of specialties," says Irving, including one of his favorites, pozole; a chicken and pork dish with corn and chilis served as a soup. It's often served for special occasions. But she also makes tamales and enchiladas and tacos. "I can find most of the ingredients I need for cooking Mexican specialties locally," said Luzmaria. Even jamaica which she uses to make a tea and serves cold. When asked what she likes about Ortonville, Dulce said, "Everything." She thinks her teacher, Mrs. Elliott is tops, and she likes to shop. Shakira is her current favorite singer, though she said she likes all sorts of music and enjoys dancing. Irving claims winter is awesome. Belester and Luzmaria have their reservations. Afterall, milking cows in cold weather, as any dairy farmer can tell you, isn't the easiest job. Irving is determined to learn to be an excel- lent wrestler. He also enjoys watching TV, and thinks English is his best subject at school.
