One change that was made for the 2009 assessment in Big Stone County was the increase of tillable land value an average of 10 percent. The average estimated market value for tillable land for the 2009 assessment is $2,326. Building values on rural res- idential properties vary by the sales that took place in each township. Non-tillable land (i.e. waste, pasture, RIM land) did not increase. Residential property values in the cities did not see a blanket increase, but were increased or decreased based on sales in each jurisdiction and for equalization purposes.
