USFA tournaments for Minnesota this year include Lake Mille Lacs on May 17, Lake Winnibigoshish on June 28 and July 12, and again on Lake Mille Lacs on August 22 and 23. Team Walleye guarantees a mini- mum of $1,000 to the winning team for tournaments with 40 teams partic- ipating. Jim Garner of the USFA stated that "in addition to great payouts, teams earn points based on their order of fin- ish. These points determine who are the anglers of the year and which teams receive invitations to the year- end championship." Registration for this year's tourna- ment will be at the Big Stone Legion on Friday, May 8 from 5-7 p.m. A rules meeting will follow. Rausch named student of quarter Bryce Rausch, son of Val and Paula Rausch of Big Stone City, is the third grading period "Student of the Quarter" for Big Stone City School. This recognition is presented to an eighth grade student who displays fine academics, attitude, and citizenship. Bryce's favorite subject is math. During the current quarter he is the school's student council president. A regular honor roll student, Bryce participates in the Knowledge Master Open, Declam, and student council activities. For athletics this school year Bryce has been involved in cross- country, basketball and track. Bryce is in band and plays the baritone for the Junior-High Band in Ortonville. Bryce and his family are members of St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City and s aenve as an altar server and choir member. Completing the family is his brother, Miles, in ninth grade and two sisters, Molly in second grade and Brenna in pre- school at the St. Lawrence School in Milbank. Awards night at OHS May 12 Awards Night at Ortonville High School will be held Tuesday, May 12th, at 6:30 p.m., in the elementary gym. This annual event recognizes student participation and achievement in various co-curricular and extra- curricular activities. Awards will be presented to members of Student Council, Speech, BPA, Knowledge Bowl, Odyssey of the Mind, FLA and School Store. Academic Awards will also be given at this time. In addition, school letters and bars will be presented to those students who have earned them by participating in school activities this year. Parents, students, and all other members of the community are invited to attend the ceremony. County Board commended The Big Stone County Board received a letter of commendation from the Minnesota Department of Human Services for perfect perfor- mance on financial reporting dead- lines for 1997.
