Obituaries Edith Jensen Funeral services were held for Edith Jensen on Monday, May 4, 1998 at 2 p.m. in the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Milbank, SD, with Rev. Wil Hansen officiating. Burial was in the Augusta Cemetery, Marietta. Honorary pallbearers were Rachel Amsden; Members of the U Go I Go Extension Club. recently Edith has lived at the Snell Assisted Living Home becoming a resident of the Whetstone Valley Care Center a year ago. Edith was a baptized member of the Congregational United Church of Christ Church of Marietta-Nassau, Mn. She transferred her membership to the Ortonville UCC Church in 1978 and then to the Milbank UCC church in 1988 where she was a member at the time of her death. She had served as Sunday School Superintendent at Nassau for many years and had held offices in the Women&apos;s Fellowship. Edith loved entertaining family and friends, cooking, gardening and Pallbearers were: Calvin Moser, Jeffrey, Scott and Michael Jensen, John Holz and Truman Redepenning. Music was by Mrs. Karen Meyer, Organist, and Mrs. Ruth Tilbury and Dennis Hoyles, Vocalists. Edith Ellen Jensen was born on May 20 1909 on a farm in Vernon Twp., Grant County, South Dakota, the daughter of Melvin James and Susie Estella Pomeroy Strain. She attended grade school in Vernon No. 5, Grant County, South Dakota and high school at Nassau, Mn. On September 1, 1928 she was united in marriage with Raymond Jensen at Marietta, Mn., Following their marriage they moved to a farm in Adams Twp., Grant County and later established their home on a farm in Vernon Twp. Mr. Jensen died on April 13, 1977. Following the death of her husband, Edith moved to Ortonville where she made her home until 1980. In 1980 she moved to Milbank, S. D. Edith continued to live in Milbank until a few years ago when she moved to Wheaten, Mn., where she made her home with her daughter, Carol. Most sewing. She was a charter member of the U GO I GO Extension Club and had served as a leader of the Happy Helpers 4-H Club. Left to cherish her memory as a loving and devoted mother are her four daughters and one son: Norma and husband Virgil Moser of Milbank; Delores and husband Stanley Street of Revillo; Lucille and husband, Duane Johnson of Menomonie, Wisc.; Carol and husband Glenn Holtz of Wheaten, Mn.; one son Wayne and wife Margaret Jensen of Brooklyn Park, MN, 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and 3 step great-great grandchildren. Also, surviving one sister: Mrs. Mildred Will of Fullerton, CA.; and two brothers: Vernon and wife Ida Strain of Apple Valley, CA.; and Irwin Strain of Anaheim, CA.; one sister-in-law: Mrs. Marie Strain of Cudahay, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, .her husband, Raymond, and one brother: Lyle Strain and one sister in law: Mrs Irwin (Onis) Strain; one brother in law: Albert Will. Charles Erp Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. this Wednesday, May 6th for Charles E. Erp, 78, of Milbank, SD at the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Milbank. Rev. Dennis Schultz will officiate and Lowell Bee will be the vocalist and Jan Schnaser will be the organist. Mr. Erp died May 2nd at the Madison Lutheran Home in Madison. Charles was born Sept. 19, 1919 in Yellow Medicine county. He attended school at Marietta. Charles and Irma Heinrich were united in marriage on Dec. 29, 1946 in Lac qui Parle County. After their marriage, they farmed in the Madison Jan. 13, 1942 until Oct. 2, 1945 when he was discharged at Sioux Falls, SD. He is survived by three sons, Arnold and wife, Donna, of Prior Lake, Dennis of Prior Lake and Larry and wife, Sheryl, of Revillo, SD, four daughters, Phyllis and husband, Ron Meister of Milbank, Dianne and husband, Bruce Engebretson of Big Stone City, SD. Ardis and husband, Mark Hintz of Miibank, SD and Sharon and husband, Gordon Kable, of Litchfieid, 22 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Erp was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on Nov. 28, 1936 in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Marietta. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 9 and the DAV Chapter No. 19 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Grant County Post No. 3486 of Milbank. He served in the U.S. Army from brothers, Warren, Bill and Alvin and one daughter, Charlotte. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home and at the Church one hour prior to services Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Erp, Mark Siegert, Michael Erp, Donald Johnsrud, Tim Siegert, Kenneth Heinrich and Russell Johnsrud. Military honors by the American Legion Post No. 9 and the Veterans of Chad Ryan Sparby Chad Ryan Sparby was born Feb. 21, 1971, at Graceville. He was baptized at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton May 16, 1971. Chad lived in Clinton until age three, when he moved to Gillette, WY, with his parents, Arlyn and Colette L (Homrighausen) Sparby. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 25 at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton. Chad was confirmed at the Methodist Church in Gillette. In May, 1989, he graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, WY. He took some college courses in Rochester, Minnesota, and also in Gillette. Lady linksters off to a great start The Ortonville Girl's Golf team showed signs of improvement in their third week of the golf season. On Monday, April 27, the girls participated in the Dawson Invitiational. Jennifer Berning shot a 51 for 3rd place individually. The team also took 3rd place in the 4 team invite with a team total of 234. Other scores were Lindsey Nelsen at 56, Nikki Thielke 61 and Liz Olson 66. Conference play resumed on Thursday, April 30 in Wheaten. Jennifer Berning took advantage of the ideal playing conditions and shot a 43 for medalist honors. The team took 1st place out of the 3 team field with their lowest total of the year at 211. Following Berning were Lindsey Nelson at 51 and 5th place, Liz Olson 57 and Nikki Thielke 60. Chad had worked in various occupations at different locations, but for the last one and one-half years, he worked in the construction field, wlle residing in Seattle, WA. S)e of Chad's most cherished times tlr<ghout his entire life were when he- could return to his grandparents' home and spend time with relatives and friends whom he loved so dearly. Chad pursued many interests, never afraid to step into things unfamiliar to him; he enjoyed taking on a challenging project. Some of his favorite interests were restoring vehicles, hiking (nature), working out at the health center, music, and time spent with family and friends. His genuine caring, giving personality was valued by each person whose life Chad touched. Residing in Seattle, WA at the time of his death on Saturday, April 18, 1998, Chad had reached the age of 27 years, one month, and 27 days. OHS class to hold play school Child Development Class of the Ortonville High School will hold a play school for children ages 2-1/2 to 5 years old. The children will be involved in a variety of learning activities, coloring, art, storytime and snack time. The play school will be held Tuesday, May 12 and Thursday and Friday, May 14 & 15 in the OHS Home Ec Room with Mrs. Barrett overseeing the class.
