LAYING DOWN A BUNT is Trojan junior Brandon Nelson in their win over CGB, 10-4 last Thursday in Clin- ton. The Trojans will finish the regular season with a home game against Brandon-Evansville on Monday, May 23 and traveling to Ashby on Tuesday, May 24. OrtonvUle will enter Section 3A Tournament play at the #2 seed in the North Sub-Section and will host three games this Saturday, May 28 at Trojan Field starting at 11 a.m. Trojans to host first round of Section 3A baseball playoffs The Trojan baseball team began last week traveling to Wheaton on Mon- day, May 16 and were defeated by the Warriors in Pheasant Conference ac- tion, 13-3 in five innings. Ortonville trailed 2-0 going into the top of the second inning when they pushed across three runs to take the lead. Austin Schneider reached on an error to start the inning. He then stole second and reached third base on a wild pitch. With two outs, shortstop Tony Schake doubled to score Schnei- der. Chase Kuefler then singled to score Schake. Kuefler stole second and scored on a hit by Brandon Nelson to give the Trojans the lead. That would be all the scoring for the Trojans as Wheaton added two runs in the second inning, two in the third, five in the fourth and two more in the fifth for the win. Damian Pillatzke started for the Trojans and went two and two-thirds innings allowing four runs, four hits, walked two and struck out two. Taylor Radermacher pitched one-third of an inning allowing four runs and four hits. Brandon Nelson pitched two-thirds of an inning allowing three runs on three hits and walked two. Kuefler and Nelson each had two hits to lead the Trojan hitters. Schake had the only hit and that was a double. The Trojans then traveled to Clinton on Thursday, May 19 and got back on the winning track defeating the CGB Wolverines 10-4. The Trojans got rolling in the first inning when Dan Berdan, Brandon Nelson and Tim Larson all bunted for singles to load the bases. With one out, Isaac Knutson reached on a fielders choice scoring Berdan. Austin Schnei- der walked to score Nelson and Mike Papasso had a fly out to score Larson to give the Trojans an early 3-0 lead. Ortonville added a solo run in the second when Berdan was hit by a pitch with one out. He stole second and scored on a hit by Nelson. CGB came back with three runs in the third inning to cut the lead to 4-3. The losers of games 13 and 14 will play at 2 p.m., June 4 in Granite Falls. The winner will then play on June 7 at 5 p.m. in Marshall against the loser of game 15. W13 June 4-Noon at Granite Falls (G15) W14 June 9-5 p.m. G 18-Granite Falls. If W17 wins, then game 19 will be played immediately following. In the top of the sixth inning, Knut- son led off with a walk. Schneider then reached on an error. Both runners ad- vanced on a failed pick off play. Tony Schake then flew out to center to score Knutson, with Schneider advancing to third. With two out, Damian Pillatzke singled to score Schneider. Berdan then singled to put runners on first 'and second. Nelson reached on an error to score Pillatzke and Larson followed with a single to score Berdan. The Wolverines would add a run in the bot- tom half of the inning to make the final 10-4. Taylor Radermacher went the dis- tance to earn the win. He pitched seven innings allowing two earned runs, eight hits, four walks and struck out seven. Berdan and Larson were the leading hitters in the game with three a piece. Nelson, Radermacher and Pillatzke each had two and Knutson and Shane Maas each had one hit. The Trojans were scheduled to travel to Ashby last Friday but the game was postponed due to the weather and will be made up on Tues- day, May 24 at 4:30 p.m. in Ashby. They were also scheduled to go to Renvitle on Saturday, May 21 for a tournament but that was canceled due to the weather. Ortonville was sched- uled to host Brandon-Evansville on Monday, May 23 and will begin the Section 3A Tournament this Saturday, May 28 hosting three games. The Trojans are the #2 seed in the North Section and will play either #7 RCW or # 10 Central Minnesota Chris-. tian at 11 a.m. at Trojan Field. The sec- ond game will feature #3 Minneota/Lincoln HI against #6 KMS. The winners of the two games will play at 3:30 p.m. This is single elimination until the semi-finals when it will be double elimination. A complete tour- nament bracket is below. Hasslen, Giese lead Trojan golfers to Conference Title The Trojan boys traveled to Tipsi- nah Mounds Golf Course in Elbow Lake on Monday, May 16 and won the Quad County Golf Championship with a score of 322. Ashby finished in second place with a 344, followed by CGB with a 345 in the eight team event. Jade Hasslen of the Trojans led the way posting a 77 for first place. Nick Giese also had a good day shooting a 78 for third place. James Nitz fired an 83 and Shane Lindahl had an 84 for the Trojans. All-Conference honors for 2011 in- cluded five Trojans. Jade Hasslen led all conference golfers going eight over for 45 holes. Nick Giese placed fourth, James Nitz sixth, Joe Mathes ninth and Issac Oakes 11 th. The next action for the Trojan boys golf team will be the Sub-section Meet in Marshall this Wednesday, May 25. The meet will start at 8:45 a.m. OHS girls golf team takes first at Conference Meet The Ortonville girls golf team trav- eled to Elbow Lake on Monday, May 16 for the Conference meet. Or- tonville won the meet with a score of 383. Underwood was second with a. 413. Bree Ninneman finished first with a 94. Rikki Roscoe was second with a 95, Jenae Schneider was fourth with a 97, Amber Sorenson was fifth with a 97, Hope Hasslen was eighth with a 103 and Amanda Goergen was 10th with a 106. All-Conference honors for 2011 in- cluded five Trojan golfers Rikki placed first, Amber Sorenson was sec- ond, Jenae Schneider was third, Bree Ninneman was fourth and Hope Has- slen was fifth. The next action for the Trojan girls golf team will be the Sub-section Meet in Marshall this Wednesday, May 25. #1N KMS COMPETING IN THE 1600M RUN for the Trojan boys track team were Jake Henrich, left and Nick Athey. Henrich placed first in the event and Athey was sixth as they helped the Trojan team win the Pheasant Confer- ence Meet last Thursday.
