All 85 kids and the adults who brought them had a wonderful time. As so often happens, the fishing was'a whole lot better than the catching, and many young anglers didn't get a chance to land any of the 557 fish that the DNR had planted. However, rumor has it that all who cast a line for a free hot dog, pop and chips came away with limits. Special thanks to Desiree Hendrickson and her staff (Jeff, Chris and Kyle) from the Minnesota DNR Fisheries Office in Ortonville for all of the work, planning (and fish) they put into this effort (including the extra fishing rods for those who didn't have one). Also, thanks to Kathy Beaulieu from the DNR in New Ulm for setting up the special "fish painting" station. Thanks to Sonya Pinkert from the Big Stone Chamber of Commerce for all of her help in contact- ing and helping to organize things. Also, a special thanks to Jim Gregory, owner and proprietor of Schrnidt's Landing and Pro Choice Tackle. Jim and his partner Rick gave some great tackle away and put on an informative and help- ful demonstration of how to put this gear together. This event could not have happened without the help and donations from some very special peo- ple and merchants in the area. Our thanks goes out to: Ortonville Jaycees - donated $200 for the food and new gas grill Sonny's Color Printing - donated over 100 printed t-shirts Bud's Bait - provided fresh bait, tackle and door prizes Chamberlain's Sporting Goods & Menswear - over $100 in door prizes Pepsi Company of Ortonville - donated refreshing soft drinks Ron Hendrickson of "i Design" - Ron designed the t-shirt graphic There were so many people who helped us put this event together, if I missed someone I apolo- gize. I have lived in this area now for over a year now and I am truly amazed and thankful for all of the help and enthusiasm you have shown the refuge during this time. The refuge is very fortu- nate to have all of you as our neighbors. Grab bags were given to all of the children in attendance and door prize winners were as follows: Jacob Riley, Danny Berdan, Andrew Treinen, Paul Kellen, Kevin Berdan, Ethan Cole, David Thomsen, Alex Sis, Ethan Teske, Nick Paulson, Taylor Leuthardt, Dustin Ringsaker, Jesse Roscoe, Lexi Radermacher, Elizabeth Devorak, Mike Hudson, Katie Jandro, Keegan Stock, Andy Strei, Isaac Knutson, Tara Leuthardt, Nathan Devorak, Rikki Roscoe, Cody Ringsaker, Jason Roggenbuck, Micah Reiffenberger, David Hermanson, Debra Herrnanson, Hannah Treinen, Lily Cole, Jeffrey Papasso The "Kiddie Pond" will continue to remain open to all for fishing throughout the season. All that we ask is that adults bring out your children to share and enjoy the outdoors with you. Theirs is the generation that will follow in your footsteps! Let's teach them wisely, show respect for nature and have fun! Ron Cole, Refuge Manager Win $1OOO Cash Every Friday! Club Card for 1t entry s at 8. 9 and 10pro }arty.
