DISCUSSION ITEMS: 10-121 Personnel Issue (Closed Session): M/K. Thymian, S/D. Hoffman and unanimously carried to close the meeting for a personnel issue at 7:04 pm. The meeting was reopened at 7:30 pm. M. Klepel said it was not an easy decision to change the direction of the girls' basketball program. There was no secret meeting before the last board "meeting and there was no discussion at the me6ting because of data privacy issues. Sheila's (Hoernemann) teaching contract was never in jeopardy. A member of the audience asked "In what direction do you want the program to go?" Mr. Klepel responded, "wherever the new coach wants to take it." - 10-122 Closed Noon Hour: Supt. Taylor asked MSBA about the school's liability and they didn't feel an open noon hour posed any additional liability. Mr. Stattelman felt that the school would need to add 3-4 additional supervisors if we were to close the noon hour. It was agreed to leave the open noon hour policy as is. 10-123 Review Policy on Cell Phone Use: Supt. Taylor contacted several schools to find out how they handle cell phone use and found that most handle it the same way we do Mr. Stattelman said he would welcome a written policy. K. Rademacher recommended that students leave their phones in their lockersduring the day. Mr. Taylor will investigate written cell phone policies. T. Henrich and J. Nelson will help in the writing of a new cell phone policy. 10-124 Review Dress Code: Mr. Stattelman reviewed ~)ossible modifications and asked for Board member help. T. Henrich, J. Nelson and D. Hoffman volunteered to help with policy modifications. Recommended changes included authorizing teachers to make dress code violation decisions, and having student's in violation of the dress code policy wear a large T-shirt over their clothing for the remainder of the day. Thymian, SIR. Johnson and unanimously carried to set the per diem board wages at $40-Home meetings, $50-Board chair. $70-Out-of-town meetings, and mileage to be reimbursed at the current IRS rate. These are the same rates as last year. 10-129 Set Lunch Prices for the 2010- 11 School Year: M/J. Plathe, S/J. Nelson and unanimously carried to keep the lunch prices the same as last year unless the school receives notice that meal price increases are required to meet the child nutrition program regulations. Meal prices will be automatically adjusted to meet the requirements. 10-130 Set Participation Fees for 2010-11 School Year: M/J. Nelson, S/M. Hamson and unammeusly carried to maintain ~articipation fees at the current level as follows: $30 for junior high, $60 for senior high with an annual family cap of $240. 10-131 Review and Approve Health & Safety Application and Attachment 10 for the 2010-11 School Year: M/D. Hoffman, S/T. Henrich and unanimously carried to approve the 2010-11 Health and Safety Application and Attachment 10 as presented. 10-132 Approve the 201"0-11 Non- Certified 9-Month Employee Contracts: M/R. Thompson, S/R Johnson and unanimously carried to approve 9-month employee contracts for the 2010-11 school year as presented. 10-133 Appoint Board Members to Be Involved With the Hiring Process: M. Klepel appointed T. Henrich, K. Thymian, D. Hoffman as board representatives tothe Hiring Committee. This will become part of the annual committee assignments. 10-134-Bus Routs: J. Plathe asked if some of the routes could be reversed at mid-year. R. Johnson did not think adding a route would be a good idea this year due to the budget. Supt. Taylor asked the board what they wanted to do, and he would do it. No action was taken. Board Member's Report: Board members again stressed that they have "always, and will continue to work for the best interest of the students of the Ortonville School District. Superintendent's Report: This year'S election marks the beginning of the board reduction process. With the November general elections there will be only two 4-year term openings, and one 2-year term opening. The terms of seven board members will expire at the end of this year. He recommended that the board committee iT. Henrich, D Hoffman, J. Plathe, K. Thymian) meet with coaches prior to the beginning Of fall sports. We will need to get a schedule for carpet replacement in the near future. Advanced Biology will be offered 2010-11. Due to this additional offering T. Keller will be teaching an earth science class.
