L Good old days in the Ortonville area YET ANOTHER REUNION PHOTO of the OHS classes of 1937 and 1938 when they gathered here in the year 1962, submitted by class member "Corky" Holmquist of Madison, Wisc. Right side, front to back, are Mrs. Kilvington, Gordie Kilvington, Ed Knutson with Pat Daly above him. 10 YEARS AGO July 15, 1992 This paper featured an arti- cle on Joan Stern riding in the Tram. It is believed she is the first person with MS to ride in TRAM. Minnesota's Secretary of State has sent voter verifica- tion cards to all registered vot- ers statewide. Thelma Jones was the win- ner of the Cashback drawing . in July in Ortonville. The Senior Citizen fishing contest was held at the foot of Big Stone Lake. Sixty nine took part in the annual seniors golf tourney on Monday. 25 YEARS AGO July 6, 1977 Gene and Karen Scheff have purchased the Parkview Board and Care Home in Ortonville from Arch and Martha Wilson. The First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville observed their golden anniversary last Sunday. Pastors present included Rev. James Goldsmith, Rev. Otto Schmidt, Rev. Arling Thompson, Rev. Lyle Hoxtell, Rev. Harold Ward, Rev. Amon Johnson Jr., Dr. E. A. Hansen and Rev. Robert Sorenson. The llth annual Rausch Golf Classic and family reunion was held July 4th at the Ortonville Golf Club. Don Wellendorf is pictured with corn over seven feet tall. Sixty members of Ortonville's National Guard will go to Camp Ripley this Saturday for their annual train- ing. 50 YEARS AGO July 24, 1952 Mrs. Pat Knoll and Mrs. Ray Corson are the chair per- sons for the Sister Kenny Foundation in the county. Ground breaking services for the proposed new Evangelical United Brethren Church in Big Stone City were held on July 20th. Tire recapping is now being done in this area on a level to handle almost every size of tire but tractor tires. Ella Marie Steltz and Donald Thomson were united in marriage July 19 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Marlys Hess and Clifford Birkholz were united in mar- riage on June 29th. The following births were recorded at the Ortonville Hospital: a girl to Mr. and Mrs. Art Bruns of Ortonville and a girl to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Kanne of Odessa. 70 YEARS AGO June 30, 1932 Two terms of the Ortonville school board are up for election The terms of Mrs. Bellingham/Louisburg By Margret Stueekrath Phone 568-2430 Mark Weber was not present when his name was called for $60 July 3 at the Bellingham Community Day Drawing. The drawing July 10 will be for $80. Lloyd Larsen celebrated his 84th birthday at Our Place Cafe on Friday. 55 people signed his birthday card. He also won a dinner at DeToy's. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brandt of Willmar, Evelyn Greiger of New Brighton and Arlene Karels attended the 40th anniversary and retirement service for Reverend Robert Friedrich on Sunday June 30. Sunday June 30 a Celebration of Reverend Robert Friedrich's 40 years in the Ministry and Farewell to St. Peter's and Trinity Lutheran Churches was attended by many relatives, present and former members of the congregations and friends from the community. Charles and Ihla Thomson and Lucille Nelson were among a group of friends who were supper guest of Gene and Betty Torness at their lake home on Bay View on Tuesday evening July 2. Evelyn Greiger of New Brighton and Arlene Karels visited with Marceila Olson at the Lutheran Home and with Esther Matties at her home on July 3. Margaret Davis of Madison, Betty Hanson and Margret Stueckrath enjoyed supper at Our Place Cafe Wednesday evening July 3. Louisburg The Albert and Gusta Borstad family reunion had a picnic gathering at the home of Darcy and Larry Winkelman and family by Artichoke Lake June 29 with 40 people in attendance. More than 800 pupils from the Big Stone county rural schools will congregate in the Ortonville city park, Saturday afternoon, for the first open air county commencement, at which 66 eighth grade gradu- ates will receive their diplo- mas. It will be the 25th annual commencement. The feature of the program will be the first appearance of the county cho- rus. Big Stone county 4-H members gathered at the high school here Monday evening and elected officers Several of the officers elected were from outside of the county. Elected president was Roland Schwandt, vice president, Arndt Mueller and Florence Mueller, secretary-treasurer. The Ortonville hospital recorded a birth of a girl to Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Felling of Browns Valley. Old Mill Twirlers The Old Mill Twirlers did not dance on Wednesday, July 3. Hank Prasnicki from Big Stone will call on Wednesday, July 10, Hawaiian night. Jerry Jorgenson visited Harry Loeschke Monday afternoon, July 1st. Grace Van Hout went to the sentor citizen potluck dinner in Big Stone on Tuesday, July 2nd. Debra and Jerianne Lindman of Blaine were Saturday, June 29th to Holiday visitors in Big Stone City. Randy, Marion, and Dylan Jost of Platina, CA were Saturday, June 29th to Monday, July 1st visitors at her parents John and Jerri Van Hout. Lauretta Mielitz's daughter Debbie Lewis and family from Fargo came to see Lauretta over the 4th of July, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith from Gillette, WY are here at her mother Lauretta Mielitz's for a couple of weeks. Adeline Overberg's daughter Barbara from Phoenix, AZ returned home on Sunday, June 30th. Adeline Overberg and Barb visited relatives at Buffalo Lake Resort and Sisseton on Wednesday, June 26th. Ruth Torgerson spent Thursday, June 27th and Friday, June 28th visiting relatives and friends in Montevideo.
