ORTONVILLE'S SUMMER READING PROGRAM came to a close with their final activity on July 30. Nancy Baldrica and her three children put on a wonderful puppet show in front of a large crowd in the library's activ- ity room. She is a professional ventriloquist from Excelsior who travels around Minnesota performing at many libraries. Nancy is shown above at right with some of her young helpers from the area. N DIGGING FOR CASH during Bellingham Appreciation Day July 27 were these youngsters. The Penny Hunt was sponsored by the Bellingham Chamber of Commerce. II I Monday, July 29th Marilyn Carlson and Esther Mullins visited Rose Karels who has been in the Sioux Falls Hospital and is now recuperating at her farm home. Wednesday, July 31st noon luncheon guests of Esther Mullins were Pam Hanson of Artichoke and Beulah Carlson of Chokio. In the afternoon they visited Hildegarde Olson at Northridge. Vi Mehllop's former extension group from Britton, SD came over on Tuesday, July 30th for lunch. Those present were Carrie Thames, Mareella Duerre, Betty Severson, and Dolly Lenuis. Eight students and two adults went to Rapid City and the Black Hills area for St. John's and St. Charles' youth group. They worked two days at the Corner Stone Rescue Mission, which is a homeless shelter that serves the Rapid City area. They had two days of fun touring the Black Hills such as going to Mount Rushmore, going horseback riding, going to the Passion Play and other things as well. The trip was from July 14th to the 19th. The St. John's and St. Charles' youth group also went camping at Blue Cloud Abbey from August 2nd to the 4th. They joined the monks for prayer on Saturday night and for Mass on Sunday morning. The other time was spent swimming, fishing, and roasting marshmallows around the campfire. Valerie Erickson and children Shawn, Katrina, and Breann from Austin, TX arrived Monday evening, July 29th at the Dragts. Valerie is the Dragt's daughter. Katrina had a birthday on Wednesday, July 31st. They celebrated by going for treats at the Dairy Queen and later having a party at the RV Park party room. Isabel Tobin's daughter Sheila Fenlon from Egan spent the week-end of August 2nd at Isabel Tobin's. Viola Zadow of Miibank was a visitor at the Roman Karels' home on Wednesday, July 31 st. Urban and Ludie Stolpman went to the Milwaukee Fest in Milwaukee. Ludie returned to Marquette University and Children's Hospital she had attended. Rick Stolpman of Omaha spent a few days with his parents Urban and Ludie Stolpman. Art and Ruth Hoernemann attended the Wood Carving Show at Black Duck with Loretta and Jim Sheaver of Park Rapids. They also attended the blueberry festival at Lake George. They were Saturday, July 27th overnight guests at the Sheaver's home. Alma Jorgenson, Virginia Dawson, and Evelyn Swigerd were Wednesday, July 31 st luncheon guests of Verna Stoehr. Jim Anderson from Bloomington visited the week-end of July 26th at the home of his mother Ethel Anderson. Dinner guests of Shirley and Lowell Harrison at their cabin on Big Stone Lake were Bob Butler, Dorothy Harrison, and Gail Maxwell. Giles was one of the 402 students completing undergraduate degree reqmrements at BSU during the semester.
