THIS 10 LB. CATFISH was caught in Big Stone Lake by Jennifer Jacobsen. She is the daughter of Brett and Pam Jacobsen of Big Stone City, SD. (photo by Bud's Bait) Death and Dying Submitted by B.S. County Local Advisory Council on Children's and Adult Mental Health. This article is about Death and Dying which gives unique problems for families and individuals who also deal with a mental illness. The information was given by Pastor Wes Moir of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Elbow Lake. Pastor Moir has a brother who has been suffering from mental illness for the past 48 years. He majored in psychology so that he could better understand his brother's illness. Every family has someone with mental illness and every person deals with death and dying. Sunny days, cloudy days and stormy days make up our lives. Most of our lives have good and sunny days but some are stormy. Every single person has a fear of dying, but what is important is that there's a different dimension with mental illness. Faith and an element of forgiveness are important. No one knows what goes on in the mind of someone who commits suicide--only God knows. Mentally ill persons have to deal with death of loved ones also. Sometimes we get to a point and wonder where is God in terrible things that happen or Why does God allow this. God is with us during the process of death and dying. We have hope because of two things--forgiveness and the open tomb. Carl Meninger says that if the mentally ill would feel forgiveness--75% would walk out of treatment centers healed. However, it is questionable if there is a chemical imbalance involved. Rocket Scientist Werner Von Braun stated that nothing ever dies, but is transformed. The soul never dies. There is a God who created us; loves us all and weepg for us. The shortest verse in the Bible is "Jesus wept." When a friend hurts us, we should write it in sand so the winds can blow it away in forgiveness. When something great happens to us, we should write it in our minds forever. In dealing with mental illness and deaththere is a God who sent his Son into the world to die for us. Understanding brings compassion. Letters to the editor To the Editor: The Fleecing of Ortonville This month I was late paying nay city of Ortonville bill, and opted to pay the extra $6.53. The delinquent charge is not the issue I wish to present here, it is the waste of tax dollars to inform me of something I already knew. Lets look at what I see as wasted Jim Gesswein offers... Rice installs building project web cam Now you can watch the Rice building project from the comfort of your living room or den on your computer. Simply go to Rice Website at www.ricehospital.com and click on the line that says Live Building Project WebCam. You will be able to watch the progress of the new building as it happens. Rice anticipates the web cam will be up for the duration of the 22 month building project. What's happening right now? During the current excavation, local dump trucks will be hauling 5,700 loads or 40,000 cubic yards of dirt from the hospital to a dump site south of town. Later in the project, some of the dirt will be returned and used as backfill. Right now, the excavation crew is digging a large hole on the north side of the hospital where the visitor parking lot used to stand. When finished, this hole will be 27 feet deep and house a reinforced concrete footing, that is 20 feet by 20 feet and 4 feet, 6 inches deep. By the first of November, a 120 foot crane will be erected on top of this cement footing. The crane will arrive in pieces via eight semi trucks. A second smaller mobile crane will be used to erect the large stationary crane piece by piece. That process will take about two days. Completely erected, the large crane has a 230 foot picking radius; it will easily be able to reach from Becker to Trott. It can hold 6,000 pounds at the tip and 26,000 pounds close to its tower. It will be able to reach across the entire project site easily picking up the equivalent of a large car or SUV. To Watch the building progress turn to the Rice website at www.ricetiospital.com 24 hours a day. taxpayers money. You have: $0.37 for "r postage. $0.03 for paper(computer flrm letter). $0.25 per minute for five minutes=S1.25 employee time. Grand total: $1.70. Now lets look at it hypothetically, if 5% of 2500 people were delinquent on their city bill and the city office sends them all letters for something which they are, already aware of, this '. would waste $212.50 of your money on a monthly basis. ""- Now lets pro-rate this over one year. $212.50 for 12 months, we taxpayers would be spending $2550.00 a year on something we don't need. I could have aired this at a city council meeting, but figured, why interrupt another petty issue they may be discussing. * I called the city office to inquire about this, the clerk replied,'Sending out these letters is a city ordinance." What ordinance might that be? The stupidity ordinance'? I don't know : aboul you other taxpayers, but I am tired of paying for things that don't make much sense. Anyway I guess it's , water under the bridge. . Tom Walsh .
