Members Present: James Nelson, Marlowe Klepel, Ronald Thompson, Brent Zahrbock, Jay Ross, and Kathi Thymian. Also Present: Jeff Taylor, Sarah Miller, Julie Schneider, Terry Rheingans, Gene Weeding, Kelly Stotesbery, Barb Voecks, Ann Grabow, Vicky Torgerson, Ellen Helgeson, Scott Schneider, Darcy Roscoe and Joel Stattelman. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, James Nelson. The special meeting was requested by the Big Stone School Board and the following items were discussed: 1. The history of the relationship between the two districts: Vicky Torgerson, Big Stone School Business Manager, presented a synopsis of the history between the two schools that detailed how the current tuition agreements began. 2. Trends for the future: The Big Stone School Board wanted the Ortonville School Board to be aware of proposed legislation that may change or terminate the current tuition agreements. 3. Roscoe Issue: Both boards agreed that improved communication is the key to eliminating future problems such as this. The Big Stone School asked to be contacted if any Big Stone School District students request a transfer to Ortonville. They also requested that a "Request for Transfer Form" be completed and sent to the Big Stone School. Big Stone will also be contacting Ortonville of any transfer requests. 4. Transportation Issues: The Big Stone School Board wanted Ortonvilte to know that they may not be contracting for bus services for the 04- 05 school year due to budget reductions. James Knoll Elementary received a four-star rating in the first No Child Left Behind school report card. Parent open house was a success. ECFE begins Sept. 16th and will consist of three shorter sessions this year. Secondary Principal Terry Rheingans reported that we have a foreign exchange student from Thailand this year. Homecoming as scheduled for October 10th, 03-122 Review 2003-04 Enrollment Numbers: Supt. Taylor reported that the Ortonville Schools hada beginning enrollment of 587 students for the 2003- 04 school year. This number is down 30 from last year's beginning enrollment of 617 students. 03-123 MREA Nominations and Information: MREA will be holding their fall convention at the Alexandria Arrowwood Inn October 23-24. Jay Ross, Kathi Thymian, Marlowe Klepel and Jeff Taylor plan to attend. 03-124 Bellingham Tuition Aqreement: After much discussion there was a M/Zahrbock, S/Klepel to accept the Bellingham proposed tuition rate of $6,068.20 per student for the 2003-04 school year. Trends for the future: The Big Stone School Board wanted the Ortonville School Board to be aware of proposed legislation that may change or terminate the current tuition agreements. 3. Roscoe Issue: Both boards agreed that improved communication is the key to eliminating future problems such as this. The Big Stone School asked to be contacted if any Big Stone School District students request a transfer to Ortonville. They also requested that a "Request for Transfer Form" be completed and sent to the Big Stone School. Big Stone will also be contacting Ortonville of any transfer requests. 4.
