Despite the fact that no deer have been found with chronic wasting dis- ease in the wild in the state of Minnesota, Nelson urges hunters to wear gloves when gutting their deer and be careful not to cut the spinal cord. Take the meat cleanly off the carcass leaving the lymph nodes, brains and spinal tissues. Do not use hunting knives in the kitchen for food preparation and soak knives for one hour in a 50-50 bleach solution after USC. Do not shoot any deer that appears to be sick. Contact the wildlife man- ager or conservation officer immediat- ly. Nelson reminds hunters that the Big Stone Game Refuge is only open to deer hunting in areas posted with Open to Public Hunting signs. t's ente tainment Waterlovl cannot be taken anywhere in the refuge.
