A date for the south zone has not yet been established. 4 Character education a new part of school days "Character education," a program that stries to build the character of students and staff, has been imple- mented at Ortonville schools this year. Several staff members received train- ing over the summer to begin the process of making character education a vital part of the everyday life of the school. The first focus of the prgram was "Respect for our Surroundings.'" Students and staff were encouraged to follow guiding principles for a better environment, which included keeping garbage picked up in the halls and commons, no sitting on tables, etc. Very' positive results have been noted by many in the improvement of the cleanliness of the building. "The stu- dents have done a great job by show- ing more pride in and respect l'or their school." said Ryan Danielson, one of the teachers involved with the pro- gram The character education program has now added the second focus in the quest to improve character which is cleaning up inappropriate language in the halls and commons area.
